dreamweaver use CSS style Lists

dreamweaver use CSS style Lists

dreamweaver use CSS style Lists
definition lists, which are ideal for adding a glossary or list of terms with brief definitions to your website
When you're designing a website, making lists is a good way to organize information. Lists makes it easier for visitors to read the information on your page. You may want to make simple unordered, bulleted lists, or be more advanced and use ordered, numbered lists. Both are simple to create in Adobe Dreamweaver and will make you website more user-friendly.
With CSS styles you can turn any element into a list or change the list type to whatever you want it to be. Dreamweaver allows you to style lists:
Enter the text you want to use in your list and make sure to separate each item with a paragraph
tag, not a break
tag. The Unordered List feature (Format>List>Unordered List) in Dreamweaver only works properly if it's applied to elements separated by paragraph tags. If you try to format text with the unordered list and the bullets don't appear before every item, it's probably because they weren't separated by paragraph tags. To fix the list, just delete any space between list items and press the Return or Enter key before each item in the list. Next, convert your list items to links (Modify>Make Link).

dreamweaver Fluid 960 Grid System templates

dreamweaver Fluid 960 Grid System templates

dreamweaver  Fluid 960 Grid System templates

The Fluid Grid layouts are clearly based on Ethan Marcotte's Responsive Web Design (the book and the article that led to the book). This feature allows you to specify three fluid grids: one each for mobile, tablet, and desktop layouts. Each grid can have 2–24 columns; a common gutter width between the columns and you can specify how wide the grid should spread across each screen.
You then add fluid grid layout div elements to construct your page in the mobile layout. (Mobile First) The next step lands squarely in the category of "brilliant"—you can resize the elements in each of the layouts, snap them to the grid, and then easily move individual elements to sit alongside and play nice with each other. This is done in either Design view or Live view, and, best of all all, Dreamweaver automatically calculates the percentage width of elements and margins to four decimal places.
This calculation is based on Ethan's formula of target/context = result. A good example of this would be column width. Let's assume you have a page width of 1232 pixels and you decide each column should be 350 pixels wide. To get the fluid column width you divide 350 (the Target) by 1232 (the Context) = 0.28409091. You would then move the decimal two places to the right for a result of 28.409091. Dreamweaver's Fluid Grid layout calculation will shave off the final two numbers for a result of 28.4090 per cent. This calculation applies to anything that has "hard" numbers attached to it such as font size, margin, padding and so on.
The CSS created by the Fluid Grid Layouts uses percentage widths and floats, so it produces layouts that adapt to any screen size. These styles are constructed on the basis of "mobile first" and even work in browsers that don't understand media queries. For those of you new to Responsive Web Design, this one feature alone is enough to get you into the game.

Layouts and Design with CSS Positioning in dreamweaver

Layouts and Design with CSS Positioning in dreamweaver

Layouts and Design with CSS Positioning in dreamweaver
Cascading Style Sheets aren't just for stylizing text. You can also use the design power of CSS to add borders to an image, force text to wrap around an image, and even add images to the background of other elements. For example, the CSS background-image property lets you place an image in the background of a Web page, or add a graphical background to a link.
In general, you probably don't need to create a tag style for the <img> tag. That type of style applies across a site, and affects every image. And while you may want a bright red, 10-pixel border around each thumbnail in a photo gallery, you probably don't want that border around the site's logo or the graphical navigation buttons on that same page. You're more likely to create class styles that you manually apply to certain graphics. In this case, create a class style with the proper border setting, and then apply that class to each gallery image
Learn how to insert and place an image using CSS when working in Adobe Dreamweaver . Whether you're new to Adobe's popular WISYWIG HTML editor or a seasoned web development professional just looking to better acquaint yourself with the workflow, you're sure to be well served by this video tutorial. For more information, including a step-by-step overview, watch this free video guide..
Correctly Positioning an image with CSS against a block of text can be quite challanging to the novice web designer. Fortunetly it's very easy to accomplish, and in this Dreamweaver tutorial we will show you how.
First let's create a div (a div creates a container and allows attributes to be applied to control it's properties).
To start with we need a container to hold the image and text, in CSS the div element lends it's self perfectly for this purpose.
To insert our div tag Insert > Layout Objects > Div Tag
Dreamweaver will insert the div tag on the page.
Dreamweaver places some default text in the Div layer, remove this. Then place your cursor back in the div tag and click, this is the position that Dreamweaver is going to insert the image.
The image should now be inside the div layer, if you tried to add text next to the image you would notice that it wraps around the bottom of the placed image, not really the effect that we want.
To make things a little clearer we are going to switch from WYSIWYG mode to code view, click on the code button top left

Designing Beautiful & Flexible Websites using dreamweaver

Designing Beautiful & Flexible Websites using dreamweaver

Designing Beautiful & Flexible Websites using dreamweaver
You must define a Dreamweaver local site folder for each new website you create. Dreamweaver needs to know where your site files are to create all the internal links correctly, and to update them when you move files to a different location within your site.
Next, set up the site for this tutorial series and define as your local site folder the check_cs5 folder you copied into your Sites folder:
Start Dreamweaver and select Site > New Site. The Site Setup dialog box appears. CS5.5 users should select Dreamweaver Site under the Create New heading.
In the Site Name text box, enter Check Magazine as the name of the site. The name is used internally by Dreamweaver to identify the site. It doesn't matter if it contains spaces.
Click the folder icon next to the Local Site Folder text box to browse to and select the check_cs5 folder.
The Site Setup dialog box should now look like Figure 1.
Figure 1. Defining the local site folder for the Check Magazine site.
Note: The file paths might differ, depending on where you created the Sites folder on your hard drive.
Click Save. That's it!
The Files panel in Dreamweaver now shows the new local root folder for your current site (see Figure 2). The file list in the Files panel acts as a file manager, allowing you to copy, paste, delete, move, and open files just as you would on a desktop.
Figure 2. List of files in the Files panel
For more information about how the Files panel works, see Work with files in the Files panel in Dreamweaver Help.
You've now defined a local site folder for the Check Magazine site. This is where you keep the working copies of web pages on your local computer. Later, if you want to publish your pages and make them publicly available, you'll need to define a remote folder—a place on a remote computer, running a web server that will hold published copies of your local files. You'll learn how to do that in part 6 of this tutorial series.

techniques Dreamweaver adding images and artwork to website

techniques Dreamweaver adding images and artwork to website

techniques Dreamweaver adding images and artwork to website
Insert an image
When you insert an image into a Dreamweaver document, a reference to the image file is generated in the HTML source code. To ensure that this reference is correct, the image file must be in the current site. If it is not in the current site, Dreamweaver asks whether you want to copy the file into the site.
You can also insert images dynamically. Dynamic images are those images that change often. For example, advertising banner rotation systems need to randomly select a single banner from a list of potential banners, and then dynamically display the selected banner's image when a page is requested. Most websites, including thesitewizard.com, have a logo that appears on every page of the website. Since this tutorial will show you how you can place that logo on your web page, you will need to have a unique image to serve as your site logo if you're to complete this chapter.
For those who are designing a company website, chances are that you already have some sort of logo around (for example, on your letterhead). If you can get hold of an electronic version of that logo, either in the GIF, JPG or PNG image formats, then you're all set. Otherwise, scan or take a digital photograph of that logo, and use that image. Make sure the image is in the GIF, JPG or PNG formats (which shouldn't be a problem since most cameras and scanners support the JPG file format).
If you don't already have a logo, you should create one to use here. For things like logos, it's best not to use one of those free images you see on the Internet, even if the author says that you can use it royalty-free on your site. You will want your logo to be unique to your website, and not something other sites also sport. You can create logos either by drawing them on paper and then scanning them, or by using a drawing program or an image editor such as one of the free ones found on the Free Drawing and Painting Software, Image and Photo Editing Programs page.
You should also read that tutorial if you're not sure how wide your picture should be. While there are no rules for the width or height of an image for a website, if your picture is too wide, you'll have a very difficult time getting it to fit into your web page.
Again, remember this cardinal rule: pictures of any sort that you want to place your site must be in either the GIF, JPG or PNG file format. Do not use any other format.

Dreamweaver Site Definitions Recovering

Dreamweaver Site Definitions Recovering

Design Notes provide a means to track extra file information associated with web site documents, such as the location of original artwork or comments regarding a file's status. The options available under the Design Notes category of the Site Definition dialog box are shown in Figure 6-4.

Figure 6-4. The Design Notes category of the Site Definition dialog box

Design Notes are ideal for collaboration but act as useful reminders even if you work alone. They are used for Fireworks and Flash integration and therefore should be turned on in most cases. See the section "Using Design Notes" later in this chapter for more details. The dialog box options are as follows.

Maintain Design Notes
You should enable Design Notes to take advantage of their many benefits, including File View column sharing as described under the section "File View Columns Category."
Cleanup
Use the Cleanup button to delete Design Notes associated with files that have been deleted. (Dreamweaver handles this task for you if you delete files using the Site window.)
Upload Design Notes for Sharing
Enable this option to upload Design Notes to the web server for sharing with other collaborators. The notes are not made available to web site visitors. This option must be enabled to support File View column sharing as described in the section "File View Columns Category" later in this chapter.
Site Map Layout Category

The Site Map Layout category of the Site Definition dialog box, shown in Figure 6-5, controls the site map's display (shown in Figure 6-9). This dialog box can be opened easily using View Layout in the Site window (Windows) or Site Site Map View Layout (Macintosh); however, these menu options work only when the Site Map view is open.

Figure 6-5. The Site Map Layout category of the Site Definition dialog box

The Site Map Layout options are described next. The most important item is the Home Page option; if it is set incorrectly, you won't be able to access the Site Map view in the Site window.

Home Page
Provides the path to the site's home page, which should be located in the Local Root Folder as specified under the Local Info category of the same dialog box. If you haven't created your home page yet, leave this option blank and set it later using Site Set as Home Page in the Site window (Windows) or Site Site Map View Set as Home Page (Macintosh).
TIP: If managing an existing site for the first time in Dreamweaver, simply browse to your home page in your site's root folder. If the path to your home page includes a forward (/) or backward slash (\) character on the Macintosh, it will confuse Dreamweaver and prevent you from using the Site Map feature.

Number of Columns
Specifies the number of file icons to display per row in the site map. If this number if large, the site map may be very wide. If the number is small, the site map will require more vertical space in the Site Map window.
Column Width
Specifies the spacing between columns in the site map (between 70 and 1,000 pixels). If the width is too narrow, items may be too crowded to read--but the width of individual columns can be set by clicking and dragging the vertical arrows in the Site Map window (see Figure 6-9). Use the Zoom pop-up menu in the lower-left corner of the Site window to change the site map's magnification.
Icon Labels
Specifies whether to display filenames or document titles below the icons in the Site Map view. Toggle this option using Ctrl+Shift+T (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+T (Macintosh). You can also run a report to detect untitled documents. The Site Files pane always shows filenames, but a document's title is shown at the bottom of the Site window when you roll over its name in the file list.
Display Files Marked as Hidden
Determines whether all files marked as hidden should be omitted from the site map. This option is also available under View Show Files Marked as Hidden in the Site window (Windows) or Site Site Map View Show Files Marked as Hidden (Macintosh). To mark an individual file as hidden, use Show/Hide Link from the contextual menu in the Site window, Ctrl+Shift+Y (Windows), or Cmd+Shift+Y (Macintosh). When hidden files are displayed, their names are shown in italics.
Display Dependent Files
Determines whether to show dependent files (such as GIFs, JPEGs, and PNGs) embedded within each web page. If this option is disabled, only the files that are connected via hyperlinks are shown in the site map.
TIP: Dreamweaver for Windows can save a picture of the site map in PNG or BMP format using the File Save Site Map command in the Site window. Dreamweaver for Macintosh can save a picture of the site map in JPEG or PICT format using the Site Site Map View Save Site Map command.

File View Columns Category

The File View Columns category of the Site Definition dialog box, shown in Figure 6-6, controls the appearance of the Site Files view (shown in Figure 6-14). This dialog box can be opened by choosing View File View Columns in the Site window (Windows) or Site Site Files View File View Columns (Macintosh).

Figure 6-6. The File View Columns category of the Site Definition dialog box

The File View Columns options are described next. They can be used to show the file's name, modification date, and type, and even information from Design Notes.

Enable Column Sharing
Enabling this option allows new columns you define to be shared by other users on your development team. It also allows you to access shared columns that other users have created. After enabling sharing, you can designate specific columns to be shared using the Share with All Users of This Site option. To share columns, Design Note sharing must be enabled in the Design Notes category of the same dialog box.
Column List
The items (rows) in the scrolling Column List configure the columns shown in the Site Files window (i.e., the row labeled Notes controls the Notes column in the Site Files window as shown in Figure 6-14). Don't confuse these columns with the Name, Type, and Show columns in the Column List itself.
Select an item in the Column List to set its individual properties. Add a Personal (i.e., custom) item by clicking the plus (+) button (see Figure 6-6). Clicking the minus (-) button will delete an item without warning (but items can be recreated easily). The built-in items Name, Notes, Size, Type, Modified, and Checked Out By cannot be deleted (however, all but the Name column can be hidden). Use the up and down arrow buttons to control the order of the rows, which determines the order of the columns in the Site Files window. The Checked Out By column is useful for tracking who has a file checked out when using Dreamweaver's File Check In/Check Out feature.
The following five options apply to each item in the Column List (although some can't be changed for built-in items):

Column Name
A new name of your choice for the custom column when displayed in the Site Files view. The names of built-in columns cannot be changed.
Associate with Design Note
This option's name is misleading. It allows data entered in Design Notes to be displayed in the custom columns you've defined for the Site Files window. For now, you can choose Status, which is one of the predefined fields (pieces of data) that can be extracted from Design Notes. See the discussion under the section "Using Design Notes" later in this chapter for details on displaying other data, including the assigned, due, and priority fields. (Fields are also known as name/value pairs.)
Align
Controls the alignment (Left, Right, or Center) of column data.
Show
Use this checkbox to show or hide the selected column in the Site Files view. The built-in Names column cannot be hidden, but this option is useful for hiding the other built-in columns, which cannot be deleted.
Share with All Users of This Site
Enable this option to make this column available to other users who have enabled sharing. This option lets you selectively share columns, provided that Enable Column Sharing is enabled. The built-in columns are always shared by all users.
Once you've finished defining your site, click OK in the Site Definition dialog box.

tutorial Spry Drop Down Menus & CSS Dreamweaver

tutorial Spry Drop Down Menus & CSS Dreamweaver

Once you have downloaded a widget from the Adobe Exchange, you can configure it inside the Widget Browser. The available options depend on how the widget was packaged by the developer. Spry Menu Bar 2.0 has a large number of options, giving you considerable control over its appearance. The options are divided into the following categories:

Binding & Behavior: Changes the menu ID and speed of operation.
Fonts: Offers a choice of web-safe fonts. Also changes the font size and weight.
Menu Bar Layout: Determines the orientation (horizontal orvertical) and alignment of the menu. This is also where you set the width ofthe menu and menu items.
Submenu Layout: Controls the width of submenus.
Colors: Sets the colors for all parts of the menu, except borders.
Menu Bar Borders: Offers a fine level of control over borders on the menu bar and top-level menu items.
Submenu Borders: Sets the borders on submenus and submenu items.
Once you have configured a widget, you can save the settings for use in other pages. You can also build new presets based on an existing one.

Follow these steps to begin with the first two sets of options:

Select Spry Menu Bar 2.0 in the My Widgets screen of the Widget Browser. This opens a preview of the menu bar on your local computer. The screen is identical to the one you saw when you previewed the menu bar on the Adobe Exchange, but with the addition of a Configure button at the bottom left.
Select Fixed Width Submenus in the WIDGET PRESETS section, and click the Configure button. This opens a screen where you can change the look and behavior of the menu to suit your own needs (see Figure 7).

Figure 7. The Widget Browser provides a simple editing environment for the menu.
The panels on the left of the Widget Browser slide up and down, giving access to all the menu's settings. Any changes you make are reflected immediately in Live View on the right.

The first panel, BINDING & BEHAVIOR, lets you change the menu's ID and timing of the flyout menus. The delays are expressed in milliseconds, so the submenus appear and disappear after a delay of 0.2 seconds by default. These default values are fine as they are, so no changes arenecessary.

Since you're going to save the changes you make to the look of the menu, you need to give it a unique name. Type Horizontal 960 Fixed Width Submenus in the Name text box on the bottom right.
Click FONTS to open the next panel.
In the Menu Bar section use the following settings:
Font Family: "Lucida Sans Unicode", "LucidaGrande", sans-serif
Size: 18px
Weight: Bold
Style: Normal
Use the same settings in the Submenu section, but set Size to 16px.
The changes are reflected immediately in Live View (see Figure 8).

Figure 8. The new fonts are displayed in Live View.
Note: If you want to take a break at any stage, click the Save Preset button at the bottom right of the Widget Browser. This saves your changes, and lists Horizontal 960 Fixed Width Submenus under MY PRESETS in the Preview screen of the Spry Menu Bar 2.0 widget. To resume editing, select your configuration from MY PRESETS and click Configure.

Setting the layout and width of the menu bar
The MENU BAR LAYOUT panel lets you choose whether to use a horizontal or vertical layout. If you choose a vertical menu bar, the width is automatically determined by the width of the menu items, and the menu is always aligned left. For a horizontal menu bar, you have the following options:

Full width: The menu expands to fill the width of its containing element.
Fixed width: The menu can be either left aligned or centered.
Shrinkwrapped: The width is determined by the total width of the menu items, and the menu bar can be aligned either left or right.
This panel represents probably the most difficult part of configuring a Spry Menu Bar 2.0 widget, because it requires not only an understanding of how widths are calculated in CSS, but also of how the menu items are styled. The menu bar and submenus follow the widespread convention of styling nested unordered lists. So, the HTML markup for each menu item is simply a link inside an <li> element like this:

<li><a href="/index.html">Home</a></li>
However, in the MENU BAR LAYOUT panel, as well as setting the width for each menu item, you need to set the padding for both the item and the item label. This is because the Spry Menu Bar 2.0 widget uses JavaScript to manipulate the HTML markup, adding not only classes, but also wrapping the textof the menu item in a <span> tag like this:

<li class="MenuItemContainer"><a href="/index.html" class="MenuItem MenuItemFirst"
tabindex="0"><span class="MenuItemLabel">Home</span></a></li>
You can see the effect this has on the structure of the menu items by giving each part a distinctive background color to make it easy to identify (see Figure 9). The item label is the green section immediately surrounding the text. The yellow area represents the menu item, and the narrow blue stripes represent the left and right borders of the menu items.

embed an SWF file that contains a link in dreamweaver

embed an SWF file that contains a link in dreamweaver

The best approach to embed a SWF into a HTML page is to use SWFObject.

It is a simple open-source Javascript library that is easy-to-use and standards-friendly method to embed Flash content.

It also offers Flash player version detection. If the user does not have the version of Flash required or has Javascript disabled, they will see a alternate content. You can also use this library to trigger a Flash player upgrade. Once the user has upgraded, they will be redirected back to the page.

An example from the documentation:A good tool to use along with this is the SWFObject HTML and Javascript generator. It basically generates the HTML and Javascript you need to embed the Flash using SWFObject. Comes with a very simple UI for you to input your parameters.

Highly Recommended and very simple to use. This technique is very usefull when your current webpage does not allow you to save flash files to their web server, or wehn you want to add more then of the same Anim-FX animation on a webpage and working with an Iframe is a great way of working around this problem.

1) First create the Anim-FX animation and upload both text and swf file to the remote webserver. In our case I put the files at http://www.mix-fx.com/ valentinesday.txt and http://www.mix-fx.com/ valentinesday.swf

2) Open your HTML editor and create and save an HTML page that will contain the iframe. Save this page as "mainiframe.html" for Ebay users this, (will be) ,or is your current ebay page.

3) Create another HTML page, add the SWF file to it, and save this HTML page as "iframeanimfx.html" and upload it again to the remote webserver, in our case this will be "http://www.mix-fx.com/iframeanimfx.html"

4) Now copy the following HTML code in the "mainiframe.html" and paste it between the body tags:

Connecting to your MySQL DB from Dreamweaver

Connecting to your MySQL DB from Dreamweaver

Connecting to your MySQL DB from Dreamweaver

how to add dynamic data to a PHP-enabled web site in Dreamweaver .Learn how to set up a connection to a MySQL web server in Dreamweaver so that you can use it in your PHP ...The first step to editing dynamic sites with Dreamweaver is to set up your dynamic site in Dreamweaver. For this, you'll need a testing server that runs PHP and MySQL as well as a publishing server that also runs PHP and MySQL. This tutorial explains how to set up Dreamweaver so that you can test your files on your local hard drive, and then when they are perfect, upload them to your live website.Log into your bluehost account and click on "MySQL Databases" then under "Users" create a new user and password if you don't already have one you want to use. Then add that user to the database you wish to work with through Dreamweaver.
Now open Dreamweaver, create a new blank PHP page, then at the top bar click on "Site" then "New". Leave the "Local Info" as it is, but click on "Remote Info" instead and change the access type to FTP.

Here are the settings you'll need to fill out:

FTP host = your domain name or IP (the IP can be found in the Control Panel)
Host Directory = public_html (or public_html/addondomain)
login = control panel (cpanel) username
password = control panel (cpanel) password
Next click on 'Testing Server' then change the 'Server Model' to 'PHP/MySQL' and access to FTP. Use the same account information as above, and if Dreamweaver asks for a 'Remote Info Page', simply use http://www.yourdomain.com

Now to connect to your account and set up a connection to a database.

Up at the top menu bar in Dreamweaver click on 'Window' then 'Databases'. This will bring up a menu on the side bar, if it is not already up, where you can click on the + button and set up a 'MySQL Connection'. Label it what you would like in the 'Connection Name' and use these settings:

MySQL Server = localhost
Username = The control panel username then '_' and MySQL database username
Example: cpanel_mysqlname
Password = Password to the MySQL database username
Database = Click 'Select' and choose your database
Then you can test the connection to see if your settings are correct.
